About Mission Discovery

What is Mission Discovery?

Mission Discovery began in 1991 as an effort to serve Jesus Christ by combining and coordinating mission resources and US churches to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the world's poor. More simply we wanted to match a church groups here in the United States with a missionary, pastor or Christian ministry doing work with people in need and meet their needs though 7 to 10 day mission trips. Since Mission Discovery's beginning, over 30,000 students and adults have built homes and churches and have shared the gospel with hundreds of people in the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, Africa, and the United States.

What We Do

Mission Discovery trips are organized around 5-10 day outreaches. Each team will be involved in a vital construction project along with an outreach led by team members that communicate the Good News of Jesus Christ. Hundreds have decided to follow Christ each year through Mission Discovery outreaches such as Children's Bible School and door to door evangelism.

Mission Discovery teams serve as:

LEARNERS - Our teams come to discover what God is doing in the world and get involved.? We come by invitation, not invasion. We come not to teach but to learn.

SERVANTS - Our teams come not to be served but to serve in the same way the Lord Jesus Christ came as a servant and friend.

STORY TELLERS? Our teams have the opportunity to tell the story of what Jesus has done and is doing in their lives.

Our goal at Mission Discovery is to provide an atmosphere where teams are able to focus on serving the poor of the world. This means that we take care of the details, such as lodging, food, worship, building materials, etc. In this way, we believe that we provide an environment for growth and servanthood that is like no other.

Our Beliefs

  1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

  2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  3. We believe in the deity and humanity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, in His present rule as Head of the Church and in His personal return in power and glory.

  4. We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful men regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

  5. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.

  6. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ, with equality across racial, gender, and class differences.
