On June 3, 2018, Volcán de Fuego, an active volcano about 25 miles outside of Guatemala City, erupted, killing over a hundred people and engulfing surrounding towns in thick ash. Here are four practical ways you can help the people of Guatemala in their time of need.

1. DONATE CLOTHES, FOOD, AND WATER

Physical donations help ensure that Guatemalan people who were displaced due to the eruption are clothed and fed during the chaos of recovery. Check with your local news stations to locate a drop-off station near you.

2. DONATE MONEY TO A RELIEF ORGANIZATION

A monetary donation ensures that first responders and relief organizations on the ground have the means to obtain whatever supplies they need to assist them in their recovery and rebuilding efforts. Donate to the cause and learn more about 10 other organizations working to assist in the relief of the Guatemalan people at Public Good. You can also donate to Mission Discovery’s Guatemala mission trips.

3. SERVE ON A MISSION TRIP

Mission Discovery teams were scheduled to build homes for three families in a nearby area, but because of the eruption, plans had to change. We will be bringing a group in the Fall of 2018 to minister to families affected by the volcano and to build the homes these families have been waiting for. 4. PRAY FOR THE VICTIMS AND THEIR FAMILIES

Join us in praying for the people of Guatemala. Ask Him to send resources, comfort, and protection to our brothers and sisters in need. Ask for His blessing in the work of relief agencies and organizations providing emergency services.
