Mission Discovery’s Spring short term mission trip in Guatemala is a unique experience. Spend your spring break in the beautiful town of Antigua, Guatemala. The spring project consists of two main elements: Learning and Serving. Each day you will hear about the Guatemalan culture and learn Spanish one on one with a Guatemalan teacher at the Christian Spanish Academy. Afternoon service options include volunteering with community missionaries serving the poor in Antigua. You may roof a home, paint a school, install wood stoves, or deliver food baskets to needy families.

The town of is nestled between towering boulders and miles of scrub brush. This mountainous setting is home to many needy families, but it is often overlooked for help because of its size and location. Thousands come to Tecate with the hope of finding more opportunities in the US or near the border. Hardworking people find jobs in the tourist or manufacturing sectors, but even then the average salary ranges from only $4-$5 a day, causing many diligent workers to live in abject poverty.

On the border that separates South Africa from Sawziland is the community of Bulembu. Once a thriving mining town, Bulembu was abandoned in 2000 along with its hospital and 1200 homes. Kevin Ward, director of Teen Challenge Swaziland, purchased the town and has a grand vision: To renovate as many homes as necessary to house 2,000 children orphaned by the AIDS pandemic of Swaziland, teach AIDS awareness, and have a self-sustaining community through the start-up of various cottage industry initiatives.

Over a decade ago, Honduras suffered its greatest disaster when rains from Hurricane Mitch caused landslides and floods that killed thousands and destroyed virtually every bridge in the country. An estimated 2 million people, approximately 40% of the entire population of Tegucigalpa, were left homeless. After a decade, relief efforts have slowed, but there is still tremendous need for food, medical supplies, construction materials, clothing, and restored hope.
