“We cannot do great things on this Earth, only small things with great love.” – Mother Theresa

I recently took on the most difficult task I could ever imagine. Our team of doctors and nurses had been treating patients all day in a sweltering church. We had a goal. We needed to be out of the church in time to pass out food in Capva, a tent city just down the road, but people kept showing up to see a doctor. It became clear that someone would have to stand at the door to give them the heartbreaking news. We could take no more patients. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do.

We handed out over 15,000 meals later that day, and when we left there were still more people chasing after our buses in hopes of getting food. One word keeps running through my head… Desperation.

It has been four years since the earthquake crumbled the walls of Haiti killing more than 300,000 people in Port Au Prince alone, and people are still desperate for help. Children are hungry, naked, and sick. Working there brought to life the words of Jesus. “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me…” Matt. 25:35&36 We did.

CHOICE

Sometimes my perspective gets challenged. One of our translators proved to be wise beyond is years. He said, “You know the only difference between you and us is choice.”

What?

“That’s right. You have the choice to come here and serve or not, the choice to eat or not to eat, and the choice to wear clothes or run around naked in the streets. These people would give anything to have what you have… Choice.”

I am working to bring light to the darkened streets of Haiti. Will you partner with me? Together we can bring change. You can get involved.

PARTICIPANT REFLECTIONS FROM HAITI 2014

“My week started with the news of Lindsey passing away and ended with a wonderful meeting with Luna, a sweet girl with CP at New Life. I held her for hours. Our bodies are back home but heart and minds are still in Haiti.”

-Randy King

“Haiti has my heart. I saw so many beautiful smiles and sincere joy in each person I cared for. I see the hope in Haiti and the awesome things God is doing!!”

-Brenda Beggs

“I spent time playing and praying. Playing with the children, talking with and greeting the adults, then praying for all the people as they left. No frills ministry, and not earth shattering, but one which He is calling me to.”
