“I came to Haiti for the first time a little over a year ago. I was in several unhealthy relationships and didn’t even know it. I was broken. I was looking for something, but I didn’t know what.

A few days into my trip, I finally realized just how broken I really was. I realized how desperate for the Father I was. I spent that night crying in the prayer room that God would save me from those relationships, that He would heal the pain.

I don’t think it was a coincidence I came to this realization in Haiti. Haiti is a place of healing, a place of hope. I have never experienced a place quite like this. Everyone you meet is full of life despite their circumstances. They are full of love, and they show God’s love in all of their actions. Sometimes it is in a kid that runs to our worksite and picks up a paintbrush and helps us, or in a quick smile of the New Life staff.

God’s presence is so evident in Haiti. These people have every reason to give up, but they never do. I admire their resilience and strive to be more like that in my everyday life. Haiti will break your heart for what breaks His. Haiti will change your life. It changed mine and I am forever grateful.”
