The week before Hurricane Matthew, I stood with Pastor Noel in the community of Onaville dreaming about the location for their next church build…church number six. Onaville is a resettlement community for victims displaced in the earthquake of 2010.
There was a thunderstorm the night before this picture was taken. The rains had washed gullies through the roads of Onaville, making our normal routes impassable. The rains of Matthew have wreaked even more havoc, but the good news is that all five of the churches that Mission Discovery teams helped construct withstood the wind with no damage.
The goal of Mission Discovery’s partnership in Onaville is not just in construction of a church building. The beauty lies in the joining of a vision. Pastor Noel intends to plant many more churches in this massive community…each with a water station! The stations provide clean cooking and drinking water for this community. Water that residents normally walk many miles each day to reach.
A few weeks ago The Red Cross conducted a study of relief and aid agencies in Onaville, ranking them from 0 to 100. 100 being the best score. The survey was given to the community to complete and Mission Discovery received a 100!
