Thousands of people are trying to help Mayfield and Bowling Green, Kentucky after tornadoes leveled the communities. The storms hit on Saturday, killing at least 70 people and injuring dozens more.

The death toll is expected to rise as rescue crews continue to search through the rubble for survivors. The National Weather Service has confirmed that at least two tornadoes struck the area.

Mission Discovery teams are not able to serve in the area currently. Our goal is to allow first responders and relief organizations to do their work before we assist in long-term volunteer and development work. Read more about our response to disaster situations HERE.

The American Red Cross has opened a shelter at the Mayfield City Schools administration building for those who have been displaced by the tornado, which was confirmed as an EF-3 (111-135 mph winds) by National Weather Service officials.

Volunteers are coming from all over to help with the cleanup effort. The Red Cross is also supporting first responders and providing food and water to those who are helping with the response.

We would like to ask our readers to keep those affected by the tornado in their thoughts and prayers. Please also consider making a donation to help those who have lost everything in this devastating storm.
