Jamaica Mission Trips with Mission Discovery: Teams from Arkansas, Texas and Illinois left yesterday for home having completed yet another step in the expansion of the Jamaica Christian School for the Deaf (JCSD). JCSD is nestled in the back country of Jamaica about 45 minutes from Montego Bay. There 37 deaf students not only go to school but are residents.

Our team arrive as children were returning to school following a Christmas holiday break. Before entering class they were checked by a team of 3 nurses from Mission Discovery for signs of physical abuse. Often the disabled are abused simply for having a disability. This time there nurses were able to report no abuse was visible.

Along with construction of a concrete roof for a preschool classroom, the mission trip included a Vacation Bible School at the Eden Basic School, a public pre-school a short walk from the JCSD, as well as foundation work on the new vocational technical building under construction.

Mission Discovery teams have been here in Jamaica now for 20 years. The work here includes the opportunity to help long-term. Each child at the JCSD needs a sponsor to attend school, so Mission Discovery’s HOLD the Children ministry matches donors in the with a child they can sponsor. Find our more at HoldTheChildren.org.
