Imagine working alongside a pastor in a poor part of Mexico at a children's feeding center. What if you arrived for each day to the sound of hundreds of children calling your name in Swaziland, or travel two hours by boat to reach your base of ministry or helped a pastor in his work with street children in Ethiopia and partner with a school for the poor in Antigua, Guatemala. The experience is called "The Bold Adventure."

7/30/2011 $200-$500

Native Americans have the highest rates of poverty, unemployment and disease of any ethnic group in the United States. South Dakota’s Lakota Indian population lives in some of the poorest communities in the US. Rapid City, is home to thousands of Lakota Indians who have moved from the Pine Ridge Reservation in search of a better life. Your Mission Discovery short term mission trip team will reach out to many Native American families, but we will not exclude anyone who has a need that we can meet.

Mission Discovery’s Spring short term mission trip in Guatemala is a unique experience. Spend your spring break in the beautiful town of Antigua, Guatemala. The spring project consists of two main elements: Learning and Serving. Each day you will hear about the Guatemalan culture and learn Spanish one on one with a Guatemalan teacher at the Christian Spanish Academy. Afternoon service options include volunteering with community missionaries serving the poor in Antigua. You may roof a home, paint a school or install wood stoves.

Take your senior high team to serve the poor in Guatemala. Your team will work near the city of Antigua. The poor come to the city, a tourist village of about 35,000, in hopes of making a living. Mission Discovery teams will join local missionaries who work to help children receive an education. Your team serves the needs of the families living in poverty in and around Antigua. You may roof a home, build a house, paint a school, help tutor children, lead a children's bible school, distribute food baskets or organize an afternoon soccer game.

On the border that separates South Africa from Swaziland is the community of Bulembu. Abandoned by the mining industry in 2001, the 10,000 residents of Bulembu soon deserted the town in search of employment. At the same time, the country was, and continues to be, ravaged by the highest HIV/AIDS infection rate in the world (38.8%) and the resulting orphan crisis. In 2006, a team of entrepreneurs and social developers purchased the abandoned town with a clear vision; to restore Bulembu to a vibrant, self-sustaining community by the year 2020.

$200-$500

In early 2009, violence escalated suddenly in Reynosa, Mexico. In response, Mission Discovery moved teams, scheduled to serve in Mexico, to service projects in Hidalgo and Cameron Counties. Located on the border between Texas and Mexico and only 15 minutes from our camp, Hidalgo is the poorest county in the US (of counties with a population over 250,000 people). Through partnerships with other ministries in the Rio Grande Valley, we have identified many families with great needs.

7/23/2011 $500-$700

Eden is a small village set back in the hills and rainforests of Jamaica. In this tiny town, the Jamaican Christian School for the Deaf ministers to hearing impaired and special needs children whose families could not otherwise afford such excellent attention and care. Mission Discovery short term mission trip teams spend a week staying and serving at the Jamaica Christian School for the Deaf. The children are on summer break, allowing our team to make needed repairs.

7/30/2011 $500-$700

45 minutes through the mountains south of San Diego, CA is the Mexican border city of Tecate. Looking in from the United States it looks like a normal small town. But the closer you get you'll find those familiar scenes of many border towns...the poor who have built homes from scraps. Since 1992 Mission Discovery has constructed over 200 homes in this town in partnerships with the Mayor, and local pastors.
