Every year, thousands of people pack up and head to places around the world to serve on a mission trip. Some know what they are getting into, but others are experiencing something entirely new to them.

So, what is a mission trip?

When a person goes on a mission trip, they make a decision to commit a focused length of time to the cause of Christ. Short-term mission trips can be a day, a week, or a year. They are any length of time that is not a lifetime commitment. Mission Discovery has committed to a lifetime of short-term mission trips to make it easier for individuals and groups to connect with long-term missionaries in U.S. cities and other countries.

As His disciples, we are called upon to spread His word.

“He said to them, “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature.” – Mark 16:15

The goal of mission trips is to help spread His word to people and places who have not yet heard the good news of the kingdom of God. As we are created in His image, we become a vessel to share the word and His blessings. Mission trips are a way to be a vessel for His kingdom, for any amount of time.

For “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?” – Romans 10:13-14

A mission trip is not only about spreading the gospel; it’s about showing His love through our work. It is about fostering compassion and generosity by serving all of God’s children. We are told to love our neighbors and those neighbors span to every nook and cranny of the world. Jesus traveled healing, preaching, and sharing the love of God. A mission trip gives us the same chance to love and serve all those who Jesus died for.

“Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd.” – Matthew 9:35-36

Everything we do is about exposing the incredible love of God to a world of people in need. During a short-term mission trip with Mission Discovery, our groups are at the full disposal of the local ministry partners and their purposes. Working in the communities in need, volunteers not only experience God’s compassion but receive the chance to bring His love to the unreached.

With a Mission Discovery trip, all your planning is taken care of. Food, lodging, transportation, and daily itinerary are pre-planned, taking a load off your back. At Mission Discovery, everything we do is to expose His love to all of His children. Our itineraries leave time for devotional thought and reflection.
