The streets of Haiti are filled with the deceased. Countless people have been killed by gang violence. People are struggling to find food and water. Banks are closed. Electricity is scarce. Prices of daily necessities are increasing by the hour, and gas is now $20 a gallon.

What is Going on in Haiti?

“I don’t know what to do. Haitians don’t know what to do because we’re fighting every day to survive,” said Richard who works at Papillon Marketplace, a store where Mission Discovery volunteers bought mission trip souvenirs before violence forced us out of the country.

Richard’s own daughter has asked him whether or not they are going to die. That’s a heavy thought to carry as a child.

For years, Haiti has been grappling with a series of challenges including political instability, economic hardship, and natural disasters. And now, gang violence has surged, exacerbating the already dire situation with reports of widespread insecurity, kidnappings, and homicides.

How You Can Help the Situation in Haiti

Many Christians across the United States are asking, “How can I help with the situation in Haiti?”

Richard said the best thing we can do for Haiti right now is pray

“I feel sorry for Haitians, and I feel sorry for myself. I would like you guys to keep us in your prayers. That’s all I can ask you to do. The violence is going up every day,” said Richard.

Three Ways to Pray for Haiti

1. Safety and Protection:

Pray for the safety and protection of the people of Haiti amidst the escalating gang violence. Ask for divine intervention to shield them from harm and to provide them with refuge and security in the midst of chaos.

2. Continued Daily Provision:

Pray for the provision of basic necessities such as food, water, and shelter for the Haitian people. During this time of economic hardship and scarcity, ask for God’s provision to meet their daily needs and sustain them through these challenging times.

3. Long-Term Solutions and Stability:

So many in Haiti are feeling hopeless. It often seems as if this turmoil will never end. However, we serve a God who works miracles. Pray for long-term solutions to the underlying issues plaguing Haiti, including political instability, economic hardship, and social unrest. Ask for wisdom and guidance for leaders and policymakers to implement sustainable solutions that will bring about lasting peace, prosperity, and stability to the nation.

There is Hope for Haiti

As Haiti faces a convergence of crises, the plea for support from its people, like Richard, pulls on our heart strings. The challenges are overwhelming, and it is hard to know how we can help the people of Haiti. However, we do know the power of prayer offers a ray of hope amidst the darkness. As we stand with our Haitian brothers and sisters, let us continue to lift them up in prayer, trusting in the strength and compassion of Jesus to guide them through these turbulent times.
