Many people who go on a mission trip come home with a desire to do more. How do we stay connected with those we have served in other countries? Most people may not know this, but Mission Discovery has a child sponsorship program that ensures the ministry our volunteers engage in continues when our teams leave. Our “HOLD the Children” program supports thousands of children around the world.
The “HOLD Home” orphanage in Port de Paix, Haiti is one of HOLD’s most important programs. HOLD provides a safe and secure home for children who have been abandoned or orphaned because of poverty or destitute circumstances. This year HOLD needs your help to continue providing these children with food, shelter, education, and medical care. Here are six ways you can help provide for children living in the HOLD home orphanage.
Completion of the HOLD Transitional Home: $125,000
Children that grow up in the HOLD Home experience an environment that is not only full of love but also stability. These children need to find their own footing in the world while still receiving kindness from those around them; this can be difficult when they’re no longer being looked after by nannies or caregivers who have taken on much responsibility for these older childrens lives over time.
The HOLD Transitional Home is a step towards living life outside of the orphanage. It will help older children learn how to appreciate, trust, and feel secure in a new realm before venturing out on their own.

Support for our Orphanage Director: $6,000 per year
Pastor Francklin, the orphanage director, is a mentor for these children. He is knowledgeable and provides guidance to other employees in order to not only keep the place running smoothly but also teach them about life beyond their community. HOLD donors are needed to support him with funds for his salary.

New Clothing and Shoes for all 45 residents: $3,000
The kids at the orphanage are in desperate need of new clothes. Because clothing for the children is shared among residents of similar sizes, it is utilized multiple times per week. As a result, they wear through clothing very quickly! This means new clothing is needed throughout the year.

Backpacks for all residents: $2,000
A backpack is one of the most important items for a child to have in school, but it can be very expensive to buy them. HOLD donors are needed to help HOLD purchase backpacks for every child at the orphanage.

High School Sponsorship: $300 per month or $3,600 for the year
The Haitian government offers free elementary education for all children. However, high school education is not free. This can be prohibitively expensive for many families and prevent their children from getting an education at all.
The HOLD Home orphanage addresses this issue head-on by providing scholarships for children to attend high school in Haiti. These funds help them achieve self-sufficiency as they enter adulthood, but more importantly, it enables them to become productive members of society who contribute positively to their communities and nation.
You can send an orphaned child through high school! Your donation will cover tuition, books & supplies, uniforms & shoes, transportation costs (if needed), meals during breaks between classes… basically, everything required so that these kids have every opportunity possible to succeed in life!
