Read 1 John 3:18

As we learned from the story of the Good Samaritan, love isn’t just something we express in our thoughts or words. It’s something we convey through our actions.

Like the wounded traveler on the road to Jericho, our world is filled with people in need. In our neighborhoods, workplaces, and communities, we encounter individuals facing various forms of distress.

The question we must ask ourselves is this: Who is our neighbor today? The answer is clear—it’s anyone we encounter on our life’s journey. Our neighbors are the people we interact with daily, the ones we can impact through our love in action.

1. Showing mercy cost the Samaritan greatly. Realistically, what comforts would you struggle to sacrifice if it meant rescuing someone from hardship temporarily?

2. This story shows that Jesus wants us to care about hurting people. When you think about bad things happening around you, how do you think Jesus might be nudging you to help make a difference?

3. Our actions are an outpouring of the love we have within us. How can you daily fill yourself with Christ’s love so that it begins instinctively pouring out of you?

Ask God to open your heart and fill it with His love so that it can instinctively flow out of you and into the neighbors around you.
