God is the glorious Creator and Sustainer of the universe and everything in it – but not everyone knows this.  All people are lost sinners and sentenced to death – eternal separation from God – but not everyone knows this.  “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16) – but not everyone knows this.

Jesus told his disciples, “…you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses… to the remotest part of the world” (Acts 1:8)  James Calvert was a disciple who literally obeyed this command.  A Weslyan Methodist missionary in the 1800’s, Calvert led a small mission team to the south Pacific Fiji Islands.  When the ships captain became aware that the islanders were cannibals, he tried to turn Calvert back, saying “You will lose your life and the lives of those with you if you go among such savages.”  To that, Calvert replied, “We did before we came here.”

God’s glorious gospel of Jesus Christ is the most important thing every person needs to know.
