If you’re anything like me then you’re constantly on the go. Rushing here and there; working non-stop; stressing about the details. It’s exhausting. It’s frustrating. It’s overwhelming. When will it stop? Will I ever get to rest? I’m constantly looking for things to help me get through all the busyness; things to bring me rest.

If you are a leader of missionary groups, you know the feeling. Planning for mission groups is a difficult task. Mission Discovery aims to take the load off the missions group leader so that they can focus on serving others. For missionary groups and the missions group leader, it is important to find rest in Jesus Christ. He fills us with peace when we spend time with Him. He calms our nerves, anxieties, and restlessness. Here are 3 Bible verses to turn to when you’re feeling overworked and tired.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NIV

God truly does give us rest! Instead of loading on more and more anxieties and burdens, we are able to give them to God so that we can both find peace and glorify Him more fully. Lay down your work at His feet, and He will bring you through it. Focusing on Him rather than everything that is going on around you will help you rest and not get that overworked feeling. Remember that we are constantly living for Him, and look at work as a way to magnify His name.

“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.” Genesis 2:2-3

God even rested when His work was done! This means that we need to physically rest sometimes. This includes sleeping, spending time pampering yourself, and just taking it slow. Our bodies can only last so long working constantly until we just can’t function. Taking care of your physical body is important! Eating right and sleeping enough will drastically help you feel better even if you do have a lot of things going on right now in your life.

“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”” Mark 6:31

Even when we do have a lot of work to do, it’s important to not neglect your time with Jesus, especially when you’re leading a missions group or part of a missionary group. Spending time in the Bible, praying, and worshipping Him through song brings true spiritual and mental rest. He will take care of you, but it’s important to remember to go to Him so that He can bring you this rest and peace. Have a daily quiet time. Listen to worship songs in the car on your way to work. Pray every morning asking God to help you focus on Him. Spend time with Him, and you will find rest.

God is a good Father. When we go to Him, He listens and He answers. Go to Him for rest, and He will bring you rest. It’s simple, but it’s hard to remember this when everything is constantly moving forward and spiralling out of control. However, today let’s take the first step and just simply pray whenever we’re feeling overwhelmed. Go to Him.
